In this course, we will discuss the various forms that lack of motivation can take as well as some of the possible reasons for, or functions of, the motivational issues. This understanding can help guide us in an approach based more on empathy than on frustration. The unmotivated student can be a source of frustration for parents, teachers, peers and others who are in the student’s life. Often it is equally as frustrating for the student, since this behavior can induce responses from others that are counterproductive to helping the student.
