Engaging Challenging Parents

Course Overview

This course will help you identify types of challenging parents and their characteristics and equip you with the tools to stay calm and to help. Through the use of clarification and identifying underlying agendas and perceptions that need to be addressed you will learn to set the foundation for productive work. Although some parents may not be able to engage in a productive manner, many of these confrontations can be de-escalated and compromises reached when we are able to remain neutral and calm and not react with our own aggression or defensiveness. One guiding principle is to maintain our focus on the student’s needs.
